The People of St James
The Church is sometimes described as being the body of Christ on earth.
Each one of us has a part to play in making the whole body function as it should. It is a work in progress!
Some have a visible part to play others have a less visible part. Each is valued whatever he or she contributes to the whole team/body.

Priest in Charge
The Revd Phil White MA has been Priest in Charge since 2001. Phil White is also half time Training Adviser for the East Riding Archdeaconry with a responsibilty for Lay Training in the Diocese.
Assistant Curate
The Revd Mary Hollis was ordained priest in June 2007, following many years as a Reader. Mary is a 'Self Supporting Minister, this means she is not paid. She also spends time in the hospital working with the Chaplain The Revd Martin Doe.
Honorary Assistant
The Revd Joy Carr is a retired priest who shares in the ministry.
Church lay personnel
Churchwarden
Joanne Watson was elected Churchwarden in 2009.
Churchwarden
Margaret Robson was elected Churchwarden in 2006. One thing Margaret enjoys is amateur dramatics!
Verger (Church)
Jenny Roper is also Brownie Guider and a former Churchwarden.
Cleaning Person (Community Centre)
Julie Springall cleans part time and is running a small business in designing and supplying wedding cakes.
Parents and Toddlers (no picture yet)
Dawn Grundy leads this group which meets on Tuesday mornings.

Matt Watkinson has recently taken on this role (no picture yet).
Church Treasurer
Muriel: she is always cheerful even when things are tight financially. She is really good at making church finances easy to understand and getting the figures to add up.
Church Helper
Vincent sets our various heating systems to come on at the right time. He enjoys reading about politics (he has a degree in it). He does all sorts of helpful jobs around the Church and Community Centre.
Singer & Café Volunteer
Joanne is retired from fund raising for Macmillan’s. She is one of the café volunteers and sings in the worship group.
Worship Group leader
Jean works with special needs children. She has a musical gift which she uses to enrich the worship of the church. She leads the music group.
Encourager, helper
Mary Walker is one of those people at St James who is a real encourager. She takes an interest in young and old, helping with Seekers, the All Age Worship teams, as well as Mother’s Union. Mary is involved in various ways in the Scarborough community, and is a keen advocate of Fair Trade issues.
Café & Arts Centre finance tracker
Keith Walker is seen here serving in the Cockleshell Café. Keith is a retired doctor. He does an amazing job keeping track of the Café and Arts Centre finances. He is wholehearted in all he does at St James and in the community, a list too long to relate here. |
