Welcome to the undercroft gallery |
Workshop |
Both of these recently refurbished rooms are airy, welcoming
and are fully central heated with excellent lighting.
The workshop which has sufficient space to sit up to 40
people with a capacity of 20 seated at work stations,
is also fully accessible by all.
This is our main art room in which activities involving
a wide variety of art materials can take place. This room
can of course be used for many other functions. E.g. we
have our Resident Concert band, who practice regularly
in this space. |
Gallery |
The gallery is a much sought after exhibiting space,
both by local and visiting artists. In 2006 we will have
hosted ten shows of artists work ranging from work by
individuals to group shows by local young people. This
medium sized gallery is flexible enough to house both
hung and free standing sculptural works. We have a new
level access planned for the near future, thus opening
up the scope for this multi functional still further.
There is also a toilet and wash hand basin facility situated
in the main access corridor.
These rooms are served by a small kitchenette for those
wishing to make their own refreshment arrangements. Our
on site café (The Cockleshell) can be accessed
during the day time between 10.30-3.00. Pre booking with
our café supervisor is advisable if you wish to
arrange to have refreshments out with these times. |

We are pleased to introduce you to our recently modernised
parish hall. These modernisations brought a 1950s designed
building up to 21st century expectations of a facility
being offered to the public. We have as a result a multi
functional space in which diverse activities can take
place.
We can offer a well lit and centrally heated large Hall,
this space is suitable for dancing, keep fit, large meetings,
and currently is home to our two resident theatre companies,
a dance group, Brownies and parents 'n' tots. A number
of Church groups also use this space.
The hall is accessed from the Seamer road entry to our
complex via a corridor which in turn gives access to the
fully accessible toilet facilities.
This corridor also allows access to the Upperroom, This
room is specifically laid out as an interactive conference
/meeting room, having digital presentation, overhead projection
and flip chart facility. There is sufficient space to
comfortably sit up to 30 people in meeting format, or
20 sat at tables.
Finally our homely and distinctly Christian Cockleshell
Café run by our friendly café supervisor
and a team of volunteers from the church community here
at St James.
The café offers a selection of well prepared, delicious
home cooking with consideration given to seasonal themes,
and fairly traded products. FSeel at home in this inviting
atmosphere, whether in the company of friends or family,
or on a solo visit we can assure you of a very warm welcome.

A new stained glass window has been commissioned by St
James |
for the new Upper Room in the Parish
Hall.
The original design by artist Alan Davies
is well worth looking at….. |
 |
The design has been commissioned by St James for
the new Upper Room not as a memorial but as a celebration
of the faith and lives that have contributed to
St James as a centre of community live for so many
years.
At present it has no ‘name’.
Alan Davies has followed a series of suggestions
made to him by a group from St James that wanted
to express ….
Well you have a look and see what you think it symbolizes
and says, as you look at it!
What does it have to do with community, St James,
faith, life and death?
Tell us what you think!
The cost of the window has been met by voluntary
donations.
