Below is an unusual view of the church’s unique tower
and wind vane. It was taken during a rare occurrence of rime
earlier in the year. You might not have seen this view before.
You might also think that the Christian life is predictable.
But it depends how you see it. There are surprising and amazing
things about discovering the presence of God in the everyday.
At St James we are planning to install new heating and relaying
a complete new floor with under-floor heating. Our medium
sized congregation, many who earn little yet have raised an
amazing sum to get this work done. The church has already
been serving the community for over 120 years, we’re
getting ready for another 120!
We’re also looking forward to the Bishop of Hull’s
visit on Sunday 1st June for a confirmation service. 8 youngsters
and several adults are exploring the Christian faith in preparation.
Perhaps also seeing some thing new about God.

The situation in Kenya has been precarious since the Presidential
elections at the turn of the year. Phil is still hopeful that
by the summer things will have calmed down enough for the planned
visit (se below) to go ahead. Some details about the current
situation can be found by clicking
Encounter Bungoma Update Feb 2008
Revd Phil is leading Encounter
Bungoma a visit to Western Kenya in 2008.
It continues the link he has built since a 3 month sabbatical
with the Diocese in 2006.
In 2008 he plans to take a team of up to 12 people to Bungoma
at the invitation of the Bishop (Rt Revd Dr Eliud Wabukala)
to give teaching and training input at the developing Wycliffe
Centre near Bungoma town.
The visit is being arranged through CMS
(Church Mission Society). The dates are 25th August
to 12 September 2008 and will include a safari to the
Masai Mara at the end of the period of teaching at the Wycliffe
Centre.
The likely total cost is £1,400.
This will be an exciting opportunity to learn cross culturally,
building relationships with a sister church and making a contribution
that could be long-lasting.
Further details are on the downloadable
forms.
Please get in touch with Phil
directly if you have any questions or have an interest in coming
on the trip.
